Assembly Subcommittee takes action to formally reject Governor’s proposal

SACRAMENTO – Today, Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) was joined by student leaders from the Future Farmers of America (FFA) program to advocate for continued state funding before the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Education Finance.  The committee rejected the Governor’s proposal to shift $15.4 million away from the California Department of Education (CDE) for which career technical education programs like FFA rely on.

ACR 79 recognizes May as Blue Star Mothers of America Month

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) and the full State Assembly honored and recognized California Blue Star Mothers during today’s floor session. Blue Star Mothers of America is the largest and fastest growing military family organization in the country and has inspired more than 26 million hours of volunteer service nationwide. ACR 79 designates the month of May as Blue Star Mothers of America month to recognize and honor the courage, dedication and patriotism of Blue Star Mothers.

AB 560 approved by Assembly Environmental Safety & Toxic Materials Committee

SACRAMENTO – Earlier this week, Assembly Bill (AB) 560 authored by Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) was approved with a 7-0 vote, enjoying unanimous, bipartisan support from the Assembly Environmental Safety & Toxic Materials Committee.  The bill seeks to keep drinking water safe and affordable by expanding state assistance to water systems in larger, severely disadvantaged communities.

SACRAMENTO – Today, Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) participated in the 2nd Annual Citrus Stride event at the State Capitol, an event geared towards educating policy-makers and regulators about the benefits of the California citrus industry to our economy, environment, and consumer health.  In addition, Citrus Mutual will donate 1,000 pounds of citrus to local food banks for each person registered for the one-mile walk.

SACRAMENTO – The Assembly Committee on Health approved Assembly Bill (AB) ­­­­­1279 authored by Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) which directs resources to address Valley Fever, a disease that affects thousands of residents per year in counties throughout California.  Specifically, the bill will allocate $2 million for Valley Fever research, require the Department of Public Health to conduct annual education and awareness outreach, and establish a workgroup to improve timely and accurate monitoring of Valley Fever infections.
