California Manufacturers & Technology Association & Industrial Environmental Association recognize Salas for protecting jobs and promoting economic growth in California

SACRAMENTO – Today, Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) announced that he received the joint California Manufacturers & Technology Association (CMTA) and Industrial Environmental Association (IEA), 2015 Legislator of the Year Award.  The CMTA works to improve and enhance a strong business climate for California's 30,000 manufacturing, processing and technology based companies. The mission of IEA is to promote responsible, cost-effective environmental laws and regulations and facilitate compliance.

Governor Signs Salas Pipeline Safety Bill

AB 1420 authored in response to 2014 Arvin Gas Leak

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) announced that his Assembly Bill (AB) 1420 - which will set clear guidelines for local entities when unfortunate gas leaks occur – has been signed into law by Governor Brown.

“AB 1420 is a strong step forward in providing accountability and clear direction so that this type of tragedy never happens again,” said Assemblymember Salas. “Families should never have to go through the kind of experience that Arvin families went through – and with this measure, communities across the state will be ensured of their safety should a similar situation take place.”

Salas Partners with Hanford Community

Community comes together to engage, help and volunteer

HANFORD – Today, Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) hosted a Community Coffee event in Hanford along with the Hanford Chamber of Commerce and the Professional Latin American Association to engage constituents in questions and answers, recognize business owners and assist with a $5,000 check presentation to Hanford West High for text books from the Barona Band of Mission Indians.

He later joined volunteers at the “Day of Caring” - St. Vincent De Paul Center Project. The St. Vincent De Paul volunteer project consisted of sweeping, light weeding and litter removal around curbs, the parking lot and back dock areas. Volunteers also helped switch out clothing racks with winter wear for the colder months ahead.

Central Valley Highway Bill Awaits Signature

AB 1043 makes State Route 43 eligible to compete for funding

SACRAMENTO – Today, Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) announced that his Assembly Bill (AB) 1043 has been approved by the legislature and awaits Governor Brown’s signature. AB 1043 will add State Route (SR) 43 to the Interregional Road System (IRRS) making it eligible to compete for project funding in the Interregional Transportation Improvement Program (ITIP).

“Safety improvement projects for State Route 43 are long overdue as it serves as a key route for commuter and freight transportation,” said Assemblymember Salas. “This measure makes State Route 43 eligible for additional safety improvements, repairs, and upgrades.”

Assemblymember Salas Designates Red Ribbon Week

October 23-31 proclaimed Red Ribbon Week

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) announced that his Assembly Concurrent Resolution (ACR) 102 proclaims October 23 to October 31, 2015 as Red Ribbon Week. Salas is asking parents and students to make commitments to live in a drug-free environment.

“Promoting a positive, drug-free climate in our schools improves the general learning environment and assists today’s youth in establishing good health habits that last a lifetime,” said Assemblymember Salas. “I am proud to partner with our local schools and encourage everyone to take part in Red Ribbon Week."

Salas Joins AT&T to Recognize Local Nonprofits

$5,000 Awarded to five Central Valley organizations

BAKERSFIELD – Today, Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) recognized the work of five Central Valley nonprofit organizations. Each organization received the AT&T “Investing in California” award and will receive funding from AT&T to help expand and sustain local programs. This award is given to organizations and programs throughout the state that are improving lives in their communities by advancing education, economic growth, new technologies, and other essential community services.

“I commend AT&T in recognizing the important work of local organizations who continue to have a positive impact in our community,” said Assemblymember Salas.

Governor Signs Salas Bill to Keep Qualified Officers

AB 1168 fixes hiring inequity between officer classifications

SACRAMENTO - Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) announced that his Assembly Bill (AB) 1168 has been signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown. The bill ensures that county jails can retain qualified personnel by bringing parity to deputy sheriffs that are hired.

Weeklong Back-to-School Supply drive held for Central Valley Students

SACRAMENTO – This week, Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) delivered back-to-school supplies for students throughout the Central Valley. In a weeklong effort to ensure that students are well-prepared to start the school year successfully, Salas gave hundreds of backpacks, holding three “Stuff the Bus” events to fill school buses with supplies for students in the 32nd Assembly District.

“We know how important it is to start off the school year with the supplies needed to succeed,” said Salas. “With the new school year ramping up, parents and families are already juggling to prepare their students. It is my hope that these school supplies will help them start the new school year strong.”

Salas Unveils Public Safety, Emergency Infrastructure Plans

2015-16 California budget allocates $5 million to improve emergency services

LEMOORE – Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) was joined by the Police Chiefs from Avenal, Corcoran, and Lemoore to unveil, for the first time, the conceptual designs and blueprints for the proposed public safety infrastructure improvements and projects planned around the County. The 2015-2016 California State budget included $5 million for Kings County cities that will enable law enforcement agencies to better serve the public.

“I have worked tirelessly with local law enforcement to secure vital funding resources for the Central Valley and today we will get a glimpse of the plans for these funds,” said Assemblymember Salas. “The $5 million for public safety and emergency infrastructure in Valley cities will enable law enforcement agencies to improve emergency response and ultimately keep us safe.”
