Salas Memorializes Fallen CHP Officer

Resolution designates CHP Officer Gerald E. Dormaier Memorial Interchange

SACRAMENTO - As Memorial Day approaches and we honor our fallen military heroes, we are reminded that there are those who have fallen protecting us here at home. Today, Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) introduced a measure to honor a local Veteran and Peace Officer, California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer Gerald E. Dormaier.

Salas Responds to May Revise

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D- Bakersfield) released the following statement regarding Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr.’s May Revise of the 2015-16 state budget:

“It is great news that California will have billions in above expected revenue to invest and grow our economy. The investment of $2.2 billion towards combating the drought will help expand local water supplies, fund programs to conserve water, and respond to emergency conditions. The May Revise also includes more money for our local schools and investments in public safety while paying down the state’s debt and setting aside additional funds for California’s future.”

Salas Measure for Funding State Route 43 Passes

Central Valley Highway (SR 43) bill passes Assembly floor with Bi-Partisan Support (60-14)

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) announced today that his Assembly Bill (AB) 1043 passed the Assembly floor. AB 1043 would add State Route 43 to the Interregional Road System (IRRS) and would make it eligible to compete for project funding in the Interregional Transportation Improvement Program (ITIP).

“Improvement projects for State Route 43 are long overdue. It serves a key route for local freight transportation,” said Assemblymember Salas. “This measure makes Route 43 eligible for additional safety improvements, repairs, and upgrades.”

SACRAMENTO - Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) announced that his Assembly Bill (AB) 1420 - which would set clear guidelines for county, state, and private entities when unfortunate gas leaks occur - unanimously passed the Assembly Natural Resources Committee and the Assembly Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials Committee.

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Rudy Salas’ (D-Bakersfield) Assembly Bill (AB) 935, AB 937 and AB 1201 - unanimously passed the Assembly Water, Parks, and Wildlife Committee.

“We are in one of the worst droughts in California’s history,” said Assemblymember Salas. “We need to do whatever is necessary to increase water delivery, ensure our groundwater is sustainable, and see that our local water districts have the support and resources to make sure we have clean drinking water for our valley.”

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) introduced Assembly Bill (AB) 1317 which will prohibit Universities from increasing Executive pay when the Trustees / Board of Regents increase student tuition.

“We need to stand up for our students who are being priced out of an education while executives continue to give themselves raises,” said Assemblymember Salas.  “This is about protecting our students and holding universities accountable for their actions.”

Sustainable Water Key to Long Term Solutions

SACRAMENTO – Today, Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) introduced several bills focused on groundwater management, including Assembly Bill (AB) 935 which would provide funding for the planning, design, and construction of a local and regional conveyance project, the Sustainable Water Conveyance Project, to move water to and from the California aqueduct.

“Last year, we took a major step to combat dry years by passing a historic water bond, but more needs to be done if we are going to solve the water crisis,” said Assemblymember Salas.
