Salas Recognizes Lon Chaney of Delano as Veteran of the Year

32nd Assembly District Veteran of the Year

SACRAMENTO - Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) honored Chief Hospital Corpsman Lon Chaney as the 32nd Assembly District Veteran of the Year at the 7th Annual Veterans Recognition Luncheon in Sacramento.

“During his 28 years in the Navy, Lon Chaney received many medals and commendations for his bravery, service, and devotion. It’s my honor to recognize him today as Veteran of the Year,” stated Assemblymember Salas. “Lon Chaney has gone above and beyond the call of duty by continuing to serve his community as Chair of the American Legion Boys’ State of Delano since 1989 and serving veterans through many local organizations.”

Salas Declares Budget Victory for Ag Education

Governor signs state budget; $4.1 Million for Ag Incentive Grant Preserved

BAKERSFIELD – Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) released the following statement about the Governor signing the State Budget for the 2014-2015 fiscal year:

“Today’s victory would not have been possible without the countless students, farmers, business owners, educators, community members, and fellow legislators who stood by FFA and fought with me to preserve Ag Education. Funding is now secured for this next budget cycle to invest in our students and give them the vocational skills and leadership development necessary to advance California and meet local industry demands. However, we must continue to be diligent and support my AB 2033, which seeks to guarantee dedicated funding in the future years for this important program.”

Hanford Sentinel: FFA Funding Back In State Budget

HANFORD — State legislators passed a budget Sunday that includes $4.1 million for Future Farmers of America programs.

The decision, which reflected broad bipartisan support, drew kudos from an array of agricultural and political leaders in Kings County.

“I think it’s super that even the Legislature has been able to come together and see how important this really is,” said Marybeth Hearn, an agricultural instructor and FFA adviser.

SACRAMENTO - Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) today honored Murray Family Farms as Small Business of the Year for the 32nd Assembly District.

“Murray Family Farms is the embodiment of a business that embraces the community by creating a family-oriented business that values people and great produce,” Salas said in a statement. “The Murray family has done more than just sell produce – they have created a fun and safe destination for the community to learn about agriculture. I am proud to honor Steve and Vickie Murray from Murray Family Farms as the 32nd Assembly District Small Business of the Year.”

“Officer Dean Esquibel made the ultimate sacrifice while performing his sworn duty,” said Assemblymember Salas. “In recognition thereof, we pause to honor him, a fallen hero, by recalling his devotion, celebrating his life, and honoring his service with this appreciation.”

Salas Legislation to Prevent Illegal Gambling Clears Assembly

AB 1439 will close a loophole and put a stop to illegal gambling sweepstakes cafes

BAKERSFIELD – Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) announced that his Assembly Bill (AB) 1439 to fight illegal sweepstakes gambling cafes cleared the Assembly floor with bipartisan support (vote of 75-0).

“Illegal sweepstakes gambling cafes are a threat to both public safety and local business,” said Assemblymember Salas.  “These establishments exploited a loophole in the law that allowed them to proliferate—especially locally in Bakersfield. This legislation will be the final nail in the coffin for illegal gambling cafes.”

AB 2033 clears Assembly floor with bi-partisan support

BAKERSFIELD – Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) announced today that his Assembly Bill (AB) 2033 which calls for dedicated funding to the Ag Education Incentive Grant Program passed the Assembly floor.

“We must protect the Ag Education Incentive Grant for our schools and students,” said Assemblymember Salas. “Our students deserve the opportunity to continue developing the technical and leadership skills necessary to lead and feed California into the future.”

Speaker Appoints Salas to Agriculture Committee

Salas brings voice to Ag from the Central Valley

SACRAMENTO – Newly elected Speaker Tony Atkins announced she has appointed Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) to serve on the Assembly Committee on Agriculture.

“I am honored that Speaker Atkins has selected me to serve and be a voice on the Agriculture Committee”, said Salas.  “California’s Agriculture industry is #1 in the country, generating over $46 billion in revenue to our state.  I grew up in the Central Valley and I have seen firsthand what it takes to cultivate a strong ag industry and am committed to ensuring this continues,” concluded Salas.
