Salas Rallies Support for Water Bond

Water security is economic security; Californians must act now

BAKERSFIELD - Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) today urged support for a California Water Bond at a bipartisan press conference and rally on the steps of the State Capitol. Salas contends that the bond, to be crafted by the State Legislature, must include critical infrastructure investments to ensure local and statewide water supplies now and into the future.

Salas Responds to Governor’s Drought Declaration

BAKERSFIELD – Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) released the following statement today after Governor Brown declared a drought emergency for the state of California:

“I want to thank the Governor and everyone who rallied for water yesterday - our voices were heard. Now that the Governor has declared a drought emergency, this will accelerate relief efforts and help get water to where it is needed now.  I will continue to fight for better water infrastructure and look forward to hosting a water hearing later this month in my district.”

Salas Bill to Fight Illegal Sweepstakes Gambling Cafes

Cafes a threat to public safety, local businesses

BAKERSFIELD – Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) announced today that he has introduced Assembly Bill 1439 to fight the rising number of illegal sweepstakes gambling cafes proliferating in the City of Bakersfield and throughout the state.

“Illegal sweepstakes gambling cafes are a threat to both public safety and local business,” said Assemblymember Salas.  “This legislation will stop these casino-style gambling cafes and give local governments and the Department of Justice the tools needed to shut them down permanently.”

Salas Responds to Governor’s Budget Proposal

BAKERSFIELD – Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D- Bakersfield) released the following statement today after Governor Brown proposed the 2014-2015 State Budget:

“I applaud the Governor for his fiscal prudence in paying down California’s debt by $11 billion dollars thus building on a sound and strong California economy,” said Assemblymember Salas. “I am also pleased to see the $3 million in job training that I fought hard for last year, an additional investment of $6 billion for our schools and a much needed $23 million for safe drinking water which is critical for small rural communities throughout the Valley,” Salas concluded.

Assemblymember Salas Announced Opening of Delano Community Correctional Facility (CCF)

Salas-led efforts to reopen facility is a win for community

BAKERSFIELD - Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D- Bakersfield) and representatives from the City of Delano today hailed the operational opening of the Delano Community Correctional Facility (CCF) as a major win for the community, citing both new jobs and improving public safety.  The City of Delano has signed a contract with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) and opened its doors for inmates this morning.

“Job creation and public safety go hand-in-hand with the reopening of this Community Correctional Facility,” said Assemblymember Salas. “Reopening the Delano CCF helps with the statewide prison crisis while ensuring that prisoners serve their time.”

Assemblymember Salas Announces Opening of Community Correctional Facilities (CCF)

BAKERSFIELD - Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D- Bakersfield) and representatives from the City of Shafter and the Association of California Cities Allied with Public Safety (ACCAPS) will announce the operational opening of the Shafter Community Correctional Facility (CCF) and the upcoming opening of the Delano CCF. Following the announcement, a tour of the Shafter CCF will be offered.

“Putting these empty Community Correctional Facilities back in operation will bring more jobs, strengthen our local economy and help keep our streets safe,” said Assemblymember Salas.  “Through this hard-fought collaboration, we are able to keep prisoners behind bars and help alleviate the statewide prison crisis” concluded Assemblymember Salas.

Salas Hosts Kern County Business Roundtable

BAKERSFIELD - Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) held a Kern County Business Roundtable today in Bakersfield. The event provided an opportunity to discuss issues facing the business community and what legislative proposals can assist local businesses to hire more individuals.

“The roundtable allowed me to hear directly from local business leaders and be informed of their concerns as I prepare to enter the 2014 legislative session,” said Assemblymember Salas.  “A healthy business community is vital to a healthy economy and getting people hired for jobs,” concluded Salas.

The event was held at the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce. Attendees included business owners and Chamber staff from throughout the 32nd Assembly District.
