Salas Legislation to Protect Employees Providing CPR Passes Assembly

AB 633 (Salas) sparked by the Glenwood Gardens incident passes with bi-partisan support

SACRAMENTO – Assemblyman Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) today announced AB 633 passed the Assembly Floor.  AB 633 will prohibit employer policies that prohibit an employee from providing emergency medical services, including CPR, in response to a medical emergency.

According to the American Heart Association, there are approximately 360,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in the U.S. each year.  On average, bystander CPR is provided approximately in one fourth of all out-of-hospital events.

Ready to work on fiscally responsible, balanced budget

Sacramento – Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) released the following statement:

“Although the budget reflects an improving economy, Sacramento must continue to be fiscally prudent and responsible with taxpayer dollars to improve our economy and ensure every dollar is stretched to the fullest,” said Salas.  “I am looking forward to getting to work on the Governor’s May Revise that provides efficient and effective services, provides a rainy day fund, pays down debt, improves our education & health system, improves our roads and our aging infrastructure,” concluded Salas.

Salas Bill to Protect Rural Communities from Unfair Waste Dumping Clears Key Committee

SACRAMENTO - Assemblyman Rudy Salas (D - Bakersfield) today announced that Assembly Bill (AB) 371, that aims to protect rural communities from sewage (sludge), passed the Assembly Local Government Committee with bipartisan support. AB 371 will address the excessive dumping of sludge in the community address and the effects it has on the health, safety and water quality in rural areas.

Salas Carries Legislation to Assist Detained Veterans 

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D- Bakersfield) announced today that AB 555 passed the Assembly Judiciary Committee with bipartisan support. AB 555 will allow County Sheriffs to release a detained Veteran’s personal identifiable information, with the Veteran’s consent, to the County Veterans Service Officer for purposes of identifying eligibility for federal and state benefits that they may not be aware they qualify for.

AB 555 (Salas) was crafted in collaboration with the Kings County Sheriff, Dave Robinson and Kings County CVSO Joe Wright.

Salas Announces Education Grant to Lemoore Union High School

$5,000 to Assist with the Purchase of ebooks

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D- Bakersfield) announced today that the Lemoore Union High School District has been awarded the Barona Education Grant of $5,000 from the Barona Band of Mission Indians. The funds will be used to purchase ebooks for students to use as sources for research projects.

"With this grant, Lemoore High School students will have access to the latest technology in educational materials," said Assemblymember Salas. "I want to thank the Barona Education Grant Committee for their generosity and recognizing the needs of Central Valley students by providing the resources needed to improve their educational experience."

Sacramento – Assemblyman Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) today issued the following statement regarding AB 680 which will make State Route 43 eligible for Interregional Transportation Improvement Program funds.

"I am pleased that AB 680 passed out of the influential Appropriations Committee where literally hundreds of bills die each year," said Assemblymember Salas.  "This is very positive for Kings County & the Central Valley as we work to ensure State Route 43 gains eligibility for much needed safety and road improvements."
