Meeting the Requirement for Proposition 39 - the Clean Energy Jobs Act

Sacramento – Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) today announced AB 114 passed the Assembly Committee on Natural Resources.

In November 2012, California voters passed Proposition 39 - the Clean Energy Jobs Act which, among other things, dedicates up to $550 million for projects that create energy efficiency and clean energy jobs in California.

AB 556 would add, and define, "Military and Veteran status" as a category protected from discrimination under the Fair Housing and Employment act.

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D- Bakersfield) today joined fellow Legislators, Student Athletes and an Olympic medalist in support of SCR 26, a measure to urge the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to reverse its decision to eliminate wrestling as an Olympic sport.

Wrestling was one of the original sports of the ancient Greek Olympic Games and of the first modern Olympic Games. The California Interscholastic Federation’s Boys Wrestling State Championships have been hosted in Rabobank Arena, Bakersfield, California since 2005 and the Girls Wrestling State Invitational Championships have been hosted in Lemoore High School, Lemoore, California since 2011.

Salas Legislation to Protect Rural Communities From Unfair Waste Dumping Passes Assembly Committee

SACRAMENTO – Assemblyman Rudy Salas (D- Bakersfield) today announced AB 371 passed the Assembly Environmental, Safety and Toxic Materials Committee.  AB 371 will address the dumping of sewage (sludge) and the effects it has on the health, safety and water quality in rural areas.

“I am extremely pleased the committee voted to pass AB 371,” said Assemblymember Salas.  “It respects the will and wishes of the voters, it protects our community and sends a clear message that the residents of Kern County shouldn’t be dumped on especially when it’s near our groundwater source.”

Salas Recognizes Superintendent Rosalina Rivera of Delano

SACRAMENTO - Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) honored Rosalina Rivera of Delano at the State Capitol where she attended the 7th Annual California Hall of Fame awards. In 2007, Ms. Rivera was named Superintendent of the Delano Joint Union High School District.

Under her leadership, the Delano Joint Union High School District has received numerous academic honors, including: California Distinguished Schools Awards (Cesar E. Chavez High School and Delano High School); California School Board Association Golden Bell Awards (Delano High School); U.S. News and World Report Nation's Best High School Awards (Cesar E. Chavez High School, Delano High School, and Robert F. Kennedy High School); and National Title I Distinguished School Award (Cesar E. Chavez High School).

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield), today chaired a hearing of the Select Committee on Regional Approaches to the State's Water to take a hard look at ways to optimize current water resources and consider future options to improve and stabilize water reliability throughout the state.

"Valley farmers continue to struggle with water cutbacks and drought conditions," said Salas. "All options have to be on the table as we move to address a problem so apparent that the United States Department of Agriculture just designated Kings, Kern, Tulare and Fresno counties a 'natural disaster area.'"

Sacramento – Assemblyman Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) today issued the following statement about the recent death at Glenwood Gardens:

"The death at a local senior independent living facility is both sad and troubling. At present, police and others are conducting investigations, and it is important to wait until we have all the facts. Should the law need to be modified, I have reserved Assembly Bill 633 that can be amended to ensure people are given proper emergency care when they need it."
