Salas awards Bakersfield College a $1 million check

The Renegades received a hefty sum of money from one of their advocates in the state Assembly: Rudy Salas.

The assemblyman joined Bakersfield College President Sonya Christian to celebrate and discuss the $1 million in funding secured in the 2019-20 state budget for workforce development programs at the college. Salas presented a large check to Christian and BC students during a news conference Monday.

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) and the State Assembly honored the California Blue Star Mothers on Monday during floor session with Assembly Concurrent Resolution (ACR) 29. ACR 29 designates the month of May 2019 as Blue Star Mothers of America Month to recognize the dedication and sacrifice of Blue Star Mothers.

The Blue Star Mothers of America is the largest and fastest growing military family organization in the country and has inspired more than 26 million hours of volunteer service nationwide. They were founded as a patriotic service organization during WWII to unite mothers who had sons or daughters in the United States Armed Forces.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — On Wednesday, Assemblymember Rudy Salas was named the Legislator of the Year by the American Legion.

Salas was recognized for his leadership, support and dedication to the veterans and service members of California.

CORCORAN – On Friday, Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) and Joe Ashley from the California Resources Corporation presented a $2,500 check to John Muir Middle School.

The money is to help send students to Washington, D.C., to present findings from their Mission 12 experiment on the International Space Station in the annual Student Spaceflight Experiments Program (SSEP) National Conference at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.

Spreading Smiles in Kern County: Free Dental Clinic at Kern County Fairgrounds

At the Kern County Fairgrounds, volunteer dentists and oral hygienists from all over California help administer dental care to thousands who face barriers to oral treatment.

Assemblymember Rudy Salas helped bring the clinic to Bakersfield for the first time, though he said in a perfect world, we wouldn't need these extra clinics.

Hanford Sentinel: FFA Funding Back In State Budget

HANFORD — State legislators passed a budget Sunday that includes $4.1 million for Future Farmers of America programs.

The decision, which reflected broad bipartisan support, drew kudos from an array of agricultural and political leaders in Kings County.

“I think it’s super that even the Legislature has been able to come together and see how important this really is,” said Marybeth Hearn, an agricultural instructor and FFA adviser.
