Funding included for Valley Fever, public safety infrastructure and workforce training

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) issued the following statement regarding Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr.’s signing of the 2018-19 state budget:

“In Governor Brown’s final state budget, California has made crucial investments in education, healthcare and combatting homelessness, all while setting aside record levels of reserve funds to prepare for the future,” said Assemblymember Salas. “This is a budget that delivers for the Central Valley, bringing funding to improve public health and public safety and investing in job training and education. I commend the Governor for including in the budget a commitment to combat Valley Fever by dedicating $8 million in total for research and awareness. The budget also includes critical funding to enhance public safety in our communities by allocating $8.7 million toward public safety infrastructure in Kings County. Furthermore, to help train and grow our workforce, the budget allocates $1 million to Bakersfield College for expanded workforce development programs and includes ongoing funding for independent living centers to serve those living with disabilities. Together, we are working to keep the Valley strong.”
