Local businesses from across the state honored during Small Business Day

SACRAMENTO – Today, Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) recognized Family Eye Care as the 32nd Assembly District’s 2017 Small Business of the Year.  Family Eye Care provides comprehensive eye care services in the Central Valley.

“Family Eye Care is an example of a family oriented business that has gone above and beyond to serve our growing community,” said Assemblymember Rudy Salas. “Dr. Garcia and his team have worked tirelessly to serve thousands of families in Central Valley.  I am proud to honor Family Eye Care as the 2017 California Small Business of the Year for the 32nd Assembly District.”

“California’s small businesses are the economic engine of our state,” said Betty Jo Toccoli, President of the California Small Business Association.  “Family Eye Care was celebrated for their successful small business and contributions to the community.”

The Family Eye Care mission is to provide patients with high quality, comprehensive eye care in a friendly environment.  Dr. Garcia has proudly served as a Captain in the United States Navy Reserve for over 32 years.  He volunteers and maintains leadership roles with local and state optometric associations.  Once a month, Dr. Garcia volunteers to provide free eye exams and glasses to those in need in Kings County.  Once a year, he travels abroad volunteering his time to serve patients around the world.

Small business contributes 75% of California’s gross state product and over half of the state’s private sector jobs.  Form hardware stores to manufacturers, small business are engrained in California’s communities and economy.

Each year, the California Small Business Association hosts “California Small Business Day” which recognizes small businesses throughout the state.  During this celebration, each Legislator selects one honoree from their district that strengthens the local economy and contributes to the community.
