Salas Leads Community Coat Drive
450 coats were given away to Kings County children
HANFORD – Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) is pleased to announce that this year’s Coat Giveaway was a success and provided winter coats to hundreds of children. Salas partnered with the Professional Latin American Association (PLAA) to facilitate a donation from Southern California Gas to purchase 450 coats to distribute to residents throughout the District.
“When we come together as a community we can make a difference,” said Assemblymember Salas. “Because of our collaboration, hundreds of children will have coats this winter. This could not have happened without all the partners who volunteered their time, resources and energy to help their neighbors.”
Coats were distributed at the Dolores Huerta Head Start Center in Corcoran where Salas presented and distributed coats alongside Jeff Garner, Executive Director, Kings Community Action Organization (KCAO) and Corcoran City Councilmember Ray Lerma.
Lemoore Mayor Pro Tem Eddie Neal was in attendance with Mr. Garner to distribute coats at the Lyndon B. Johnson Head Start Center. Coats were also distributed at Lemoore Christian Aid and Lemoore Police Department. In addition, Union Bank in Hanford identified recipients of South Valley Community Church to receive the coats.
The Professional Latin American Association is a non-profit organization, formed in 2000 to promote the richness and beauty of the Latino Cultural Arts as well as serve as mentors and role models to the community’s youth.
Assemblymember Salas represents part of the City of Bakersfield, the cities of Arvin, Avenal, Corcoran, Delano, Hanford, Lemoore, McFarland, Shafter, Wasco, and the communities of Armona, Buttonwillow, Home Garden, Kettleman City, Lamont, Lost Hills, Stratford and Weedpatch.
