Kern River Blue Star Moms honored on the Assembly Floor by Assemblymember Salas

ACR 190 recognizes May 2018 as Blue Star Mothers of America Month

SACRAMENTO – Today, Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) and the full State Assembly honored and recognized California Blue Star Mothers during floor session with Assembly Concurrent Resolution (ACR) 190. The Blue Star Mothers of America, founded as a patriotic service organization during WWII to unite mothers who had sons or daughters in the United States Armed Forces, continues to provide support for active duty service personnel and their families today with over 7,500 members from over 200 Chapters throughout the nation.

“The enduring commitment, courage, and sacrifice that Blue Star Mothers display every single day to support our troops and veterans exemplify the best of American values and patriotism,” said Assemblymember Salas. “Through their tireless advocacy and volunteer work, Blue Star Mothers support the men and women in uniform that protect our nation with honor, dignity, and dedication. We must strive to support mothers of active service members and veterans just as they support the heroes who serve and defend our country.”

“We are very honored to be recognized by the Assembly. We are beyond thankful for Assemblyman Salas for his enduring support both locally and at the state level,” said Tina Price, Vice President of Kern River Blue Star Moms. “We strive to bring honor and recognition to all our Blue Star Mothers and make our children proud as they serve our country.”

The Blue Star Mothers of America name comes from the custom of families of servicemen hanging a banner called a Service Flag in a window of their homes during World War I, with a Blue Star representing a living family member serving in the military. The work of Blue Star Mothers of America includes providing support for active duty service personnel and their families, promoting patriotism, and assisting various veteran organizations, such as the American Gold Star Mothers, Inc.

ACR 190 designates the month of May 2018 as Blue Star Mothers of America Month to recognize and honor the dedication, sacrifice, and patriotism of Blue Star Mothers.
