Salas Hosts "Stuff the Bus" School Supply Drive in Wasco
WASCO – Today, Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) hosted a back-to-school “Stuff the Bus” school supply drive in Wasco to collect donations and distribute supplies to benefit local students. In partnership with Wasco Union School District, Walmart and VFW Post 6742, Salas and community members collected backpacks, pencils, notebooks and other school supplies for elementary and junior high school students in the Wasco Union School District.
“As a lifelong Wasco resident, I have spent much of my life dedicated to education and helping students,” said Danny Rueda, a Wasco Union School District board member, who helped organize the event. “I was a bus driver for Wasco Elementary for about 20 years and it’s always great to give back to our kids in supporting them whenever I can. I want to thank Assemblymember Salas for his commitment to Wasco and to helping students. Mr. Salas is a great supporter of our community of Wasco and is always there for us.”
“By working together, we were able to help provide a lot of students in Wasco with essential school supplies that kids need to be successful in school,” said Assemblymember Salas. “When our students succeed, it benefits the entire community. I want to thank all the families and people that helped make this event possible and for their generosity in giving back to the community to make a meaningful difference for young students here in Wasco.”
The annual “Stuff the Bus” school supply drives and backpack distribution events are held by Assemblymember Salas and partnering organizations throughout the 32nd Assembly District to help students achieve academic success.
