Salas and Community Rally to Bring Clean Drinking Water to Stratford
Thousands of cases of bottled water brought to Stratford for students and local residents
STRATFORD – In the midst of the failure of two water wells for the community of Stratford, residents have been left without access to safe and clean drinking water. Today, Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield), along with Reyes Coca Cola Bottling, distributed three pallets of clean drinking water outside Stratford Elementary School as students returned to school for the year. Other businesses, including Nestlé and Pepsi, are delivering tens of thousands more cases to the community in the next few days.
“Due to the failure of the water wells in Stratford, residents have been enduring the hardship of living without access to clean drinking water from their taps,” said Assemblymember Salas. “It is great to see the community rallying together to provide thousands of bottles of drinking water for the residents. I have been working hard with State and local officials to find a long-term solution for the failed water wells in Stratford.”
“I am thankful to Assemblymember Salas for his efforts and assistance with securing clean drinking water during Stratford’s time of need,” said Tom Addington, Superintendent, Central Union School District. “It was great to have Rudy at our school this morning to assist first hand with passing out drinking water to members of the community, and engaging with them regarding their needs. We are very grateful for the efforts of everyone pulling together to lend a hand and help our community.”
Efforts are currently underway to repair the existing water well. The State has stepped in to offer assistance in addressing the short and long-term goals of ensuring safe drinking water for the residents of Stratford. The State Water Resources Control Board has approved up to $45,000 to fund bottled water for the next four weeks. Additionally, the State Water Resources Control Board has identified existing resources to assist the Stratford Public Utilities District in securing a long-term solution by drilling new wells.
