Kings County, CA – Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) was joined by local nonprofits, businesses, and community members at back-to-school backpack giveaways in Lemoore, Armona, Corcoran, and Home Gardens to distribute school supplies to local students and their families. In partnership with SoCalGas, the Kings Community Action Organization (KCAO), and community members - volunteers gathered to collect backpacks, pencils, notebooks and other school supplies for elementary students in Kings County. The events took place at Lyndon B. Johnson Head Start, Armona Union Elementary School, Home Gardens Head Start, and the Dolores Huerta Head Start.
“By working together as a community, we were able to help provide hundreds of kids and their families across Kings County with essential school supplies that they need to be successful in school,” said Assemblymember Salas. “When our students succeed, it benefits the entire community. I want to thank all of our amazing community partners and the families that helped make a meaningful difference for young students here in the Central Valley.”
“KCAO and the families we serve are grateful for the support of Assemblymember Rudy Salas,” said KCAO Executive Director Jeff Garner. “The annual backpack giveaway is something that our agency and families look forward to. It is wonderful to see our Head Start Child Development children put on their new backpacks with a huge smile.”
The annual backpack giveaways and “Stuff the Bus” school supply drive events are held by Assemblymember Salas and collaborating organizations throughout the 32nd Assembly District to help students achieve academic success.
